A well functioning electronic ignition needs the trigger surfaces of the flywheel to be exactly aligned with the induction vanes of the pickup on the ignition base plate.
Due to different manufacturer tolerances (e.g. different crankshaft cone angle, different magneto flange heights) the pickup coil may need to be lifted in 0.5mm steps, up to a total of 1.5mm for the pickup and the trigger in the flywheel to align properly.
Once things are correctly aligned, the ignition impulse will be transmitted cleanly to the CDI.
